French Advanced – C1, C2 (CEFR)

You are at the advanced level, you have come this far, which is great!

This is the final frontier – or is it?!

How to sustain this high level in the language?  The important thing is to keep learning, using and adding to your existing knowledge and competence in the language.

How do you do this if you are not in the country, using the language daily?

I, of all people, will understand the challenge!

As a teacher of French, Conversation and Culture to groups of advanced learners, the key is to keep it fresh and current.

That’s not to say you can’t read classic literature, or watch classic French films (Nouvelle Vague, anybody?!)  Reading and watching films is a wonderful and enjoyable way to increase your command of the language by extending your vocabulary and picking up colloquialisms.

However, to keep abreast of French culture and lifestyle, watch the news, read their newspapers (all available online), listen to the radio, and follow events in the francophone world, on which the French government and news channels seem to place much focus.

In this section, you can:

listen to news, film, and song clips for comprehension

access French literature, short stories, and poems

test your level of grammar, maybe by revisiting some of the more complex structures

access more sophisticated vocabulary, to help you discuss ideas and express your point of view with fluency

Bon courage!
