Today we’re going to learn the days of the week.

1. Monday

Lundi

Pronunciation:

Lun-dee

Meaning:

Monday

Example:

Je travaille lundi.

I work on Monday.


2. Tuesday

Mardi

Pronunciation:

Mar-dee

Meaning:

Tuesday

Example:

Nous partons mardi.

We leave on Tuesday.


3. Wednesday

Mercredi

Pronunciation:

Mair-cruh-dee

Meaning:

Wednesday

Example:

C’est mercredi.

It is Wednesday.


4. Thursday

Jeudi

Pronunciation:

Juh-dee

Meaning:

Thursday

Example:

Je vais à Paris jeudi.

I am going to Paris on Thursday.


5. Friday

Vendredi

Pronunciation:

Von-druh-dee

Meaning:

Friday

Example:

C’est vendredi.

It is Friday.


6. Saturday

Samedi

Pronunciation:

Sam-dee

Meaning:

Saturday

Example:

Je travaille samedi.

I work on Saturday.


7. Sunday

Dimanche

Pronunciation:

Dee-monsh

Meaning:

Sunday

Example:

Dimanche est mon jour préféré.

Sunday is my favourite day.


8. The Week

The French word for week is:

La semaine

Pronunciation:

La suh-men

Meaning:

The week

Example:

Bonne semaine !

Let’s read them together.

Lundi

Jeudi

Vendredi

Samedi

Dimanche

Try saying them aloud three times.

Don’t worry if they feel unfamiliar at first.

Person 1:

Bonjour.

Person 2:

Bonjour.

Person 1:

Quel jour sommes-nous ?

(What day is it?)

Person 2:

Nous sommes lundi.

(It is Monday.)

Person 1:

Merci.

Person 2:

De rien.

Read aloud:

Repeat each word slowly.


12. Real-Life Example

Imagine you’re booking a train ticket.

Le train part lundi.

The train leaves Monday.

Or:

Le train part vendredi.

The train leaves Friday.
